Seasons at KU

Winter on campus

Phoggy nights

Nothing warms you up faster than sharing Allen Fieldhouse with 16,299 fans cheering on another of KUšs storied basketball teams. Big Jay, Baby Jay and the spirit squad share the court with the reigning menšs NCAA champions, while the pep band booms and the high-tech scoreboard flashes fun facts. Whoosh!

Tra-la to you too

Ancient carols, classic oratorios and Santa pop favorites — the Annual Holiday Vespers presented by university choral and instrumental groups have thrilled sold-out audiences for more than 80 years. The real highlight is when audience and choirs pool their voices for a stirring sing-along.

Downhill slopes

When the snows come, grab a sled or a big piece of cardboard or (don’t tell!) a cafeteria tray and head for the hills by the Campanile for a great winter treat. With luck, classes will be canceled too! Afterwards, how about a steaming double-mocha cappuccino from the Union?
Winter around Lawrence

Lawrence Journal-World

A warm-hearted community

From Thanksgiving weekend through Super Bowl Sunday, artists, artisans and farmers join hands with generous townspeople to raise money for those in need. Have a blast at the funky Bizarre Bazaar, pick up home-canned jams at the Holiday Farmers Market or sip sustenance from hand-crafted pottery at Souper Bowl Saturday — all for a variety of good causes.

Lawrence Journal-World

Jingle-jangle

Lawrence loves a parade, and its most original is the Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade. All the entries, from carriages and buggies to surreys and coaches, are horse-drawn and decorated with bells, ribbons and wreaths. Riding clubs and cavalry color guards join the fun on an early December Saturday downtown.
